South Korea recorded the highest temperature since the beginning of modern meteorological measurements on Sunday, with 42.5 degrees Celsius in the city of Yangsan, located in the southeast of the country.

This is the highest temperature recorded since 1904, with Yangsan being at the center of an extreme heatwave, with temperatures exceeding 40 degrees Celsius for the fifth consecutive day. Other major cities, such as Daegu and Busan, are also facing severe heat conditions. Authorities have issued emergency alerts for the heatwave in over 20 localities.

The Meteorological Administration recommends that the population avoid outdoor activities and warns of health risks in non-air-conditioned spaces.
