Swiss and Albanian researchers have identified Europe's oldest lakeside settlement, dating back 6,000-8,000 years, on Lake Ohrid. Excavations have unearthed wooden poles, animal bones, copper and pottery, providing clues to the daily life of the inhabitants. They practiced hunting and agriculture and played an important role in spreading these practices across Europe. The site covers about six hectares, but only 1% has been excavated so far, and research could take decades.
