Brussels supports the fundamental rights of Iranian protesters, but clearly delineates its support for freedoms from any forced political change agenda. The EU condemns the violence in Iran, calls for the restoration of the internet, and excludes regime change. Displays information image Brussels' support focuses on the respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms. The European Union has condemned the violence against protesters in Iran, called on the authorities in Tehran to restore access to the internet, and reaffirmed that regime change is not part of its policy towards the Islamic Republic, according to the position expressed in the daily briefing of the European Commission.

In short The EU rejects any form of violence against peaceful demonstrators. Brussels calls for the restoration of access to the internet and information. EU policy does not aim at regime change, but at respecting fundamental rights.

In the context of recent protests in several regions of Iran, the European Commission has stated that it is closely monitoring developments, expressing its concern over the increasing number of victims and injuries. Representatives of the European executive emphasized that the right to free expression and peaceful assembly must be respected, and the use of force against demonstrators is unacceptable.

Brussels has placed special emphasis on the interruption of internet access, described as a violation of the right to information. The EU calls on the Iranian authorities to restore connections for all citizens, considering that access to communication is essential for both civil liberties and for monitoring the situation by the international community.

Regarding the calls made by figures of the Iranian opposition in exile for a tougher involvement of Europe, including towards regime change, the Commission has clearly delineated the EU's position. Regime change is not part of European policy towards Iran, and Brussels' support focuses exclusively on the respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms.

The EU's position reflects a consistent approach in its relationship with Iran, where diplomatic pressure and targeted sanctions are used as tools for defending human rights, without explicitly promoting an internal political alternative. This line separates support for civil society from direct involvement in the political architecture of the Iranian state, in a regional and international context marked by high tensions and the sensitivity of security issues.
