Esmaeil Baghaei, the spokesperson for the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, reacted strongly to the statements of NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, who claimed that the US attacks on Iran are "absolutely necessary."
Baghaei accused European countries of active complicity in the aggression against Iran, emphasizing that Rutte's statements confirm their lack of impartiality. He stated that the states that facilitated the aggression by providing territories and infrastructure cannot escape responsibility.
Baghaei also criticized Rutte's self-praise, considering it evidence of a "servile mentality" that cannot bring self-respect:
"The incessant self-praise of the NATO Secretary General for the role played in an illegal war, deliberately chosen, does not reflect power, but reveals the servile mentality of a flattering courtier who imagines that through praise he can erase the contempt of a king. In the eyes of Washington, an ineffective organization cannot become effective through flattery, and such manipulative attempts to gain goodwill cannot restore either self-respect or personal integrity to those who practice them," said the Iranian official.
His comments were made in the context in which Rutte acknowledged the logistical support of NATO member countries in the US-Iran conflict.
