The European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) has rejected the idea of operating commercial aircraft with a single pilot, concluding that there is not enough evidence to ensure the same level of safety as in the case of crews with two pilots. A three-year study highlighted the risks associated with fatigue and lack of redundancy in the cockpit. Pilot associations welcomed the conclusions as a 'reality check', emphasizing that although there are economic motivations for reducing crews, safety remains a priority. Aircraft manufacturers acknowledge that, for the moment, pilots will continue to be essential in operations.
