On Monday, a double suicide bombing shook the town of Blida in Algeria, about 40 kilometers from the capital Algiers, during the visit of Pope Leo XIV. According to a Western source quoted by AFP, two attackers detonated themselves, and the number of dead remains unknown.
Authenticated images from the agency show mutilated corpses on the streets of the city. Although the African Union initially reported a double attack, it retracted the statement, mentioning that the information was unconfirmed. Algerian authorities and local media have not provided official comments. There are also speculations about a possible third security incident, but this has not been confirmed. The visit of Pope Leo XIV, who began a historic tour in Africa, was marked by his call for an active civil society involved in political life.
