Devastating fires have broken out in Crete and the Peloponnese peninsula, Greece, where three firefighters have died while trying to extinguish the flames. Two of them were caught by the rapidly spreading fire in Rethymno, while another died near the port city of Gytheio. The strong wind has led to the evacuation of several villages, and witnesses describe a terrifying situation.
Meanwhile, in Spain, a heatwave has caused large-scale fires, with over 43,000 hectares destroyed in the province of Ávila, considered the largest fire in the country's history. Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez has warned that the next 12 hours are crucial for extinguishing the fire near Madrid. Additionally, the fires are also affecting other areas in Europe, including France and Portugal, where authorities are on alert due to increased risks.
