The Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that American and Ukrainian negotiators are meeting to discuss the difficult issues related to territories and the nuclear power plant in Zaporizhzhia, in the context of peace negotiations to end the war with Russia. Ukraine is facing pressure from the U.S. to reach an agreement, but refuses to cede the Donetsk region and to relinquish control over the nuclear plant.
The delegations are in Paris for the third day of discussions, where peace guarantees and territorial options have been discussed. Zelensky mentioned that any territorial compromise should be subject to a referendum, and the majority of Ukrainians are against ceding territories. The U.S. has also proposed a trilateral operation of the Zaporizhzhia plant, and Kyiv has suggested its joint use.
