Christine Lagarde, the president of the European Central Bank (ECB), stated that Bulgaria's accession to the eurozone will bring both prosperity and security. In an interview, Lagarde emphasized that, although there are concerns about rising prices, previous experiences show that these fears are limited. She mentioned that Bulgaria is ready for the euro, even though there is not total consensus among the population.
Lagarde highlighted the economic advantages, such as the elimination of currency risks and the increase in the competitiveness of exports. She also discussed the digital euro, which will coexist with cash, and emphasized the need for a stronger capital market in Europe to bolster its position in the global economy. The conversion will be made at a fixed rate of 1.95583 leva for one euro, and both currencies will be clearly displayed on price tags.
