The BBC has announced that it will cut 2,000 jobs as part of a plan to reduce costs by 10% over the next three years. Employees were informed about these significant cuts during a general meeting, but no details were provided about the individuals affected. These cuts represent the largest staff reduction in the last 15 years and coincide with Matt Brittin, a former Google executive, taking over as director-general. The BBC previously announced that it would reduce spending by hundreds of millions of pounds in the face of considerable financial pressures and competition from streaming platforms. Additionally, BBC World Service will eliminate 130 jobs to save approximately 6 million pounds. Furthermore, the annual license fee has recently increased to 180 pounds. Tim Davie, the outgoing director-general, resigned on April 2, and Rhodri Talfan Davies will lead the organization until Brittin's official takeover on May 18.
