The Russian luxury car manufacturer Aurus has been acquired in a 51% stake by a division of Gazprom, with the transaction valued at 13 billion rubles (approximately 160 million dollars). This includes the 36% stake previously held by the Tawazun fund from Abu Dhabi. Aurus is known for its luxury cars, used by high-ranking officials in Russia, including President Vladimir Putin.
The Aurus Senat limousine, dubbed "the beast", is valued for its advanced protection, capable of withstanding missile attacks. The company intends to launch more affordable models from its factory in St. Petersburg, in the context of the domestic auto production being relaunched after the withdrawal of foreign manufacturers due to the invasion of Ukraine. New car sales in Russia have decreased by 22% in the first ten months of 2025, but the market share of domestically produced vehicles has increased to 55%. The most popular brands remain Lada, Haval, Geely, and Chery, with a significant number of Chinese brands in the top.
