Audible, the giant of audiobooks, opened on Friday in Lower East Side, New York, the first bookstore dedicated exclusively to audiobooks, named 'Audible Story House'. This temporary bookstore, which will operate for a month, does not contain physical books, but shelves with audio tapes that can be listened to with the help of headphones. Bob Carrigan, the CEO of Audible, described the concept as 'a little crazy', mentioning that the goal is to provide a platform for discovering new works and interacting with other story enthusiasts. The space includes a bar, a listening room, and a 'listening bar' where visitors can receive personalized recommendations for audiobooks. The bookstore will host various events, including author meet-and-greets, and is aimed especially at young people looking for interactions in the real world. Sales of audiobooks have increased significantly, reaching $2.22 billion in 2024, according to the Audio Publishers Association.
