The Romanian Civil Aeronautical Authority (AACR) has initiated the process of establishing criteria for the authorization of unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) testing areas in Romania. The aim is to allow the testing of new technologies within a regulated framework, without compromising the safety of other airspace users.
UAS testing areas will be designated airspaces, activated on demand, with pre-established conditions, in coordination with air traffic management. The authorization conditions will include the type of aircraft, risk assessment for objects and people, risk management procedures, and cybersecurity measures. AACR will pay special attention to jet drones, which present higher risks. The criteria are being analyzed within the Airspace Management Council, and AACR will continue to collaborate with relevant institutions to ensure an effective and safe authorization framework.
