The Artemis II mission marked a historic moment in space exploration, with astronauts on their way to the distant face of the Moon, after leaving Earth's orbit. Commander Reid Wiseman described the view of Earth from space as spectacular, highlighting the beauty of the globe and the unity of humanity.
The crew, consisting of four astronauts, began a journey of 685,000 miles around the Moon, marking the first time humans have flown beyond low Earth orbit since Apollo 17 in 1972. Dr. Lori Glaze emphasized the importance of this test flight, mentioning that the crew is healthy and the spacecraft is functioning as expected.
Despite challenges, including issues with the toilet, the astronauts managed to keep their morale high. Recently, the crew successfully performed a translunar injection, freeing the spacecraft from Earth's grip and directing it towards the Moon, thus becoming the first humans to leave Earth's orbit in recent decades.
