Armenia and the United States have signed a Joint Declaration that formalizes the completion of negotiations for a Peaceful Nuclear Cooperation Agreement, called Agreement 123. This was signed during the historic visit of Vice President Vance to Armenia, the first by an American official of this rank.
The agreement will allow American firms to provide technology and civil nuclear services to Armenia, with initial exports estimated at up to 5 billion dollars and long-term contracts of 4 billion dollars for fuel and maintenance. Prime Minister Pashinyan emphasized the importance of this agreement for diversifying the country's energy sources and reducing dependence on Russian resources.
Additionally, Armenia will purchase V-BAT surveillance drones from the U.S., valued at 11 million dollars, to enhance its national security. Vance's visit takes place in a complex geopolitical context, in which Armenia seeks to redefine its strategic position in the region, and these developments also reflect Washington's efforts to strengthen its influence in the South Caucasus and diminish Russia's traditional role in the energy and security sectors.
