President Donald Trump commented on the armed incident that took place at the White House Correspondents' Dinner, stating that the suspect attacked from a distance of 50 meters.
“My impression is that he was a madman, a lone wolf. These are crazy people and measures need to be taken against them,” Trump said about the detained suspect.
The president emphasized that “the hall was very, very well secured” and mentioned that he does not intend to change his approach to events held in enclosed spaces, adding that he manages well despite the risks: “I prefer not to think about it. I lead a pretty normal life, considering that, you know, it’s a dangerous life. I think I manage as well as I can.”
FBI Director Kash Patel urged the public to share any information related to the incident, stating that the agency is examining ballistic evidence.
“No information is too small, no information is inappropriate. We will evaluate them all. We will also interview individuals who were present there and, if any of these individuals have information, we ask that you address it to law enforcement authorities: the FBI, the Metropolitan Police Department,” Kash Patel said.
Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche announced that the suspect will be charged soon, and the investigation is ongoing: “The charges should be evident, considering his behavior. But, as you will hear, there will be multiple charges related to shootings, possession of firearms, and anything else we can find against this individual.”
Blanche highlighted both the actions of the suspect and the response of law enforcement, emphasizing the contrast between the two.
“Tonight you saw the worst and the best in this country. You saw the worst through the actions of that lunatic that the president just spoke about. But you also saw the best, because you saw law enforcement doing exactly what they need to do,” Blanche concluded.
