Anas Sarwar, the leader of the Scottish Labour Party, has called for the resignation of British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, thus becoming the highest-ranking Labour official to make this request. Sarwar emphasized that the situation at Downing Street is unacceptable and could affect the Labour Party's chances in the elections in Scotland.

Pressure on Starmer has increased following revelations from the Epstein files, which involve controversial links between Peter Mandelson, the British ambassador to the US, and Jeffrey Epstein. Mandelson has been accused of passing sensitive government documents to Epstein and maintaining relationships with him after his conviction.

Mandelson resigned from the Labour Party, stating that he does not want to cause further embarrassment to the organization. Starmer apologized to Epstein's victims and acknowledged that he was not aware of the links between Mandelson and Epstein at the time of his appointment. He expressed regret for his choice, saying that he was disappointed by the behavior of those in power who betrayed the trust of the victims.
