Alex Honnold, known for his rope-free ascents, made a premiere on Sunday, climbing the Taipei 101 skyscraper without any safety equipment. The climb took about 90 minutes, and Honnold used L-shaped protrusions as footholds, also climbing large ornamental structures of the building. Initially, the climb was scheduled for Saturday, but it was postponed due to unfavorable weather.

Taipei 101, with 101 floors, features a challenging central section, referred to as 'bamboo boxes', which posed a significant challenge. The climb was broadcast live on Netflix, and the crowd at the base of the building applauded upon the completion of the ascent. Although Honnold is not the first climber to scale Taipei 101, he is the first to achieve this feat without ropes, after Alain Robert climbed the building in 2004, at its inauguration.
