Romania’s first vertical wind tunnel open to the public was recently inaugurated in the commune of Ghiroda, at the entrance to Timișoara, as part of the Zero Gravity leisure center. The €9.5 million investment was completed after five years of efforts initiated by Tiberiu Rada, a skydiving and extreme sports enthusiast.
The tunnel was built in partnership with Aerodium Technologies. The flight chamber has a diameter of three meters and a height of ten meters, while the air currents can reach speeds of up to 290 kilometers per hour. Visitors receive protective equipment and are accompanied by an instructor, with each session lasting approximately one minute.
The facility can be used both for recreation and training. Experienced skydivers can practice their movements in a controlled environment, without the risks and stress of jumping from an aircraft. National champion Mihnea Riteș says indoor training helps athletes repeat flight sequences more efficiently.
The center covers 3,200 square meters and includes a fitness room, spaces for sports activities, a playground, a café, a restaurant, and a laser tag area. The investors also intend to build a hotel nearby.
