Afghanistan and Pakistan have agreed to resume peace talks in Istanbul, after previous negotiations failed, and Islamabad threatened the Taliban with reprisals. Turkey, as the host country, intervened to facilitate the resumption of discussions, considering the recent armed clashes at the border, which have resulted in loss of life. Pakistan will demand measures against militants using Afghan territory for attacks against it.

The Pakistani Minister of Defense warned that his country could destroy the Taliban regime without using its entire nuclear arsenal. Although both parties agreed to a ceasefire, the failure of negotiations has led to rising tensions, and Pakistan has carried out airstrikes on Kabul, targeting leaders of the Pakistani Taliban. The Pakistani Minister of Defense stated that the failure of discussions could lead to open conflict.
