The Australian police have charged a 52-year-old man, Miguel Simon Mungarrieta Monsalve, after he broke into the Abbey Museum of Art and Archaeology in Caboolture, stealing ancient Egyptian artifacts. The incident occurred on Friday morning, and the man stated that he felt it was his duty to return the artifacts to their rightful place. Among the stolen items are a wooden cat figure from the 26th Dynasty of Egypt, a 3,300-year-old necklace, and a mummy mask. Most of the artifacts were recovered the next day, and a wooden sculpture was later found when the suspect was arrested. The museum expressed sadness over the theft, emphasizing the importance of these items in its educational program. The suspect, originally from Venezuela, stated that he does not believe the museum should hold the artifacts due to its ties to the Catholic Church. The judge compared his act to an episode of "The Simpsons," highlighting the seriousness of the situation. The museum stated that the artifacts will require professional assessments before being displayed again.
