A tragedy occurred in Brooklyn, New York, where a seven-month-old girl died after being struck by a stray bullet during a shootout between rival gangs.
The incident took place Wednesday afternoon on a busy street, where several adults and children were present. The girl's mother and father sought shelter in a nearby establishment, but when they checked the stroller, they discovered the girl was covered in blood. Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch stated that the alleged shooter is in custody of the authorities, and the gunfire appears to be related to gang activity, with the victim being an unintended target. The girl was transported to Woodhull Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani emphasized the devastating impact of gun violence and the need to address this issue. Although gun violence is common in the United States, the NYPD reported a decrease in gun-related incidents in 2025.
Video footage captured two suspects on a moped, one of whom was firing a weapon. One of the suspects has been apprehended, while the other is being sought. The investigation is ongoing.
