A woman armed with two knives randomly stabbed two people in Times Square, New York. The police intervened quickly, trying for four minutes to convince the attacker to drop her weapons. The negotiations failed, and the officers were forced to open fire, killing the woman.
As a result of the attack, one person died, and a 68-year-old man was seriously injured, in stable condition. The attacker, identified as Pamela Cisnero, had known mental health issues. Authorities do not consider the incident to be terrorist-related, and the city's mayor thanked the police for their swift intervention that prevented an even greater tragedy.
