This medication, marketed under the name Teizeild, serves to delay the progression to stage 3, which requires daily insulin treatment. Approved based on the clinical study TN-10, teplizumab demonstrated a median delay of two years in the onset of the clinical stage of the disease compared to placebo. The study included 76 participants, and the results showed that 57% of those treated remained in stage 2, compared to 28% in the placebo group. The safety profile was similar to previous studies, with the most common adverse reactions being transient lymphopenia and skin rashes.
Teplizumab is a monoclonal antibody that suppresses the immune response, allowing the body to produce insulin for a longer time. This treatment represents a breakthrough in the therapy of autoimmune type 1 diabetes.
