Myocarditis, a mild inflammation of the heart, has been identified as a complication of COVID-19 vaccines, and the FDA has asked to expand the warnings to include details about the risks. According to the new data, the risk of myocarditis is 8 cases per 1 million vaccinations, most common in men ages 12 to 24. Although the cases are less severe than the myocarditis caused by COVID-19, the updated labeling has stirred controversy, especially in the context of new anti-vaccination counselors appointed by the health secretary. Experts suggest that the current approach is wrong and that people predisposed to myocarditis should be investigated.
