The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) authorized on June 30, 2026, the marketing of 20 varieties of nicotine pouches under the ZYN brand as modified risk tobacco products (MRTP).

The decision allows the manufacturer to promote them as having a lower risk compared to traditional cigarettes, regarding conditions such as oral and lung cancer, cardiovascular diseases, stroke, and chronic respiratory diseases.

The American authority states that the measure applies to specific products and that they are not risk-free, but are primarily intended for adult smokers who are completely transitioning from cigarettes to smoke-free alternatives.
