A recent survey shows that 25% of adults over the age of 50 take supplements for brain health, despite the lack of scientific evidence. Dr. Pieter Cohen from Harvard Medical School emphasizes that there are no proven ingredients that improve cognitive function or prevent memory loss. The lack of regulation by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) allows manufacturers to make claims without concrete evidence. Although some supplements contain nutrients such as omega-3 fatty acids and vitamin E, studies have not demonstrated their effectiveness in improving brain health. Healthy diets, such as the Mediterranean diet, can provide cognitive benefits, but supplements do not have the same effect. Additionally, studies on ginkgo biloba have not shown a reduction in the risk of dementia. Dr. Cohen recommends lifestyle changes, such as physical exercise and a plant-based diet, as being more effective than supplements.
