The European Union reaffirms its solidarity with Ukraine ahead of Independence Day, which marks 35 years since its attainment. In a press release, the European Commission emphasized its commitment to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, highlighting the courage and resilience of the Ukrainian people in the face of Russian aggression.
Since the beginning of the invasion in February 2022, the EU and its member states have mobilized 220.2 billion euros for humanitarian, financial, and military support. Recently, the EU adopted a new package of sanctions against Russia and announced an industrial partnership in the defense sector with Ukraine.
Additionally, the EU is committed to ensuring the economic recovery of Ukraine and holding Russia accountable for the crimes committed. Starting in 2024, the EU will use the proceeds from the frozen assets of the Central Bank of Russia to support Ukraine, thus continuing to uphold its European path.
