Romania will shift from summer temperatures to cold weather and possible snowfall in the mountains

Romania will go, in just a few days, from temperatures of up to 32 degrees to a sharp cooling, accompanied by rain and, at high altitudes, sleet and snow. The weather change will begin on Monday and intensify on Tuesday and Wednesday, as a mass of cold air moves in.

On Saturday, September 19, the weather will remain warm across most of the country. Highs will range between 22 and 32 degrees, with the highest values forecast in southern Banat and Oltenia. Showers and thunderstorms are possible in the afternoon and evening in the Eastern and Southern Carpathians, Moldavia and northern Muntenia. In isolated areas, rainfall totals may exceed 15–20 liters per square meter, while wind speeds may reach 40–45 km/h.

From Monday, cold air will gradually move across the country, and temperatures will drop significantly. Rain is forecast in Maramureș, Transylvania, Moldavia, Dobruja and most of Muntenia, as well as locally in Crișana.

On Tuesday, cold weather will cover the entire country, with highs ranging between 11 and 23 degrees. On Wednesday, precipitation in the mountains may turn to sleet and snow at altitudes above 1,800 meters. On the ridges, wind gusts may reach 70–90 km/h. In Bucharest, temperatures will fall considerably after the warm weekend.
