The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has officially announced the beginning of the El Niño phenomenon in the Pacific Ocean, with forecasts indicating an unusually strong episode. Climate models suggest a 63% probability that El Niño will reach the 'very strong' category, with temperatures that could exceed 3°C above average.

This phenomenon is developing against the backdrop of unprecedented global warming, which could amplify its effects on the climate. The impact will be felt across multiple continents, with heavy rainfall in tropical regions, but also drought in areas such as Australia and Indonesia.

Mohamed Adow, director of the organization Power Shift Africa, emphasizes that the official announcement of El Niño is a wake-up call for millions of people in vulnerable regions, where the effects may include compromised crops and rising food prices.
