The United Kingdom recorded a record temperature of 33.5°C today, measured at Heathrow, marking a first for the month of May. According to the Met Office, the national meteorological service, this record has far exceeded the old record of 32.8°C, set in 1922 and 1944. Meteorologists have emphasized that such a heatwave, with a significant increase in temperature, is exceptional for this time of year. Already last weekend, temperatures exceeded 30 degrees, a level not seen since 2012. The Met Office declared a heatwave in eight locations in England, including Greater London, Suffolk, and Essex, where temperatures exceeded 27 degrees Celsius for three consecutive days. Only the north-west of Scotland and Northern Ireland were spared from this intense heat, which is affecting a large part of Europe.
