The United Kingdom has recorded the hottest day in June, with a record temperature of 35.8°C, thus surpassing the old record of 35.6°C set in 1976. The Met Office reported that the temperature was reached in Wiggonholt, West Sussex, after Charlwood, Surrey, recorded 35.7°C earlier the same day. This extreme heat has affected most of England and Wales, prompting the issuance of a rare red warning by the Met Office. The heatwave, caused by a 'heat dome' over Western Europe, has generated health warnings, school closures, and disruptions in transport. Experts emphasize that the breaking of this 50-year record highlights the impact of climate change, driven by the burning of fossil fuels, which generates increasingly frequent and intense heatwaves, for which the United Kingdom is unprepared.
