The meteorological authorities in the United Kingdom have issued a red heatwave warning for several regions in England and Wales, warning of high risks to health and human life, amid temperatures that could reach 39 degrees Celsius. The warning will come into effect on Wednesday at 09:00 and will remain valid until Thursday at 21:00, affecting southern England, the Midlands region, and southern Wales. In the rest of the regions, orange warnings are in effect.

Meteorologists estimate maximum values of 38-39 degrees Celsius in the coming days, and the red warning, the highest level of alert, signals dangerous weather conditions. Authorities warn of possible health issues, especially for vulnerable individuals, and about disruptions in transport and electricity supply. Road and railway closures are also expected. The heatwave is also affecting other parts of Europe, with extreme temperatures reported in France, Spain, Germany, and Luxembourg. The heatwave warning system was introduced in the UK in 2021, and the first red warning was issued in July 2022.
