Researchers warn that the July heatwave, which brought record temperatures to Finland and Sweden, has been exacerbated by climate change caused by human activities. The World Weather Attribution analysis points out that the burning of fossil fuels has increased the likelihood and intensity of this phenomenon. The effects have included overheating of hospitals, drownings, forest fires and toxic algal blooms, affecting indigenous Sámi communities.
