Belém, a city in the tropical forest with 1.4 million inhabitants, will host a climate summit on Thursday and Friday, where approximately 50 world leaders are expected to attend, ahead of the UN Climate Change Conference (COP). Although most nations will participate, the United States will not send any representatives, with President Donald Trump considering climate science a "hoax." Among the leaders present will be British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and French President Emmanuel Macron, while other major economies, such as China and India, will send lower-ranking officials. The choice of Belém as the venue has been criticized due to its limited infrastructure and high accommodation costs, which affect the participation of small delegations and non-governmental organizations.
