Deputy Cătălin Drulă, the USR candidate for the Capital City Hall, has submitted a project for the creation of Uranus Park, a public green space of nearly 80 hectares around the Palace of Parliament. The project aims to return the land to the people of Bucharest, currently partially closed and accessible only to state institutions. Drulă has requested the support of the Permanent Bureau of the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate to initiate the initiative, which includes a partnership between several public institutions.
Uranus Park has symbolic significance, considering that the area was once the Uranus neighborhood, destroyed in the 1980s by the Ceaușescu regime. Drulă emphasizes that the project is not just an urban investment, but also an act of historical reconciliation between the state and citizens, proposing the transformation of the land into an open public space. The initiative could transform the area into a civic meeting place, similar to examples from other countries, and could contribute to improving the image of Parliament. Drulă also proposes to implement this project if he becomes mayor.
