Cătălin Drulă, the USR candidate for the Capital City Hall, announced the intention to organize a referendum for the administrative reorganization of Bucharest, proposing the elimination of sectors. Drulă believes that, having a good relationship with Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan, he would not refuse such an initiative. He emphasizes that, by 2027, the law and the referendum should be implemented, regardless of the political affiliation of the Prime Minister.
Alongside the administrative reorganization, Drulă relies on two referendums already voted by Bucharest residents, including the one initiated by Nicușor Dan, which supported the return to a single metropolitan budget system. This system would allow for better funding of the capital's projects, instead of the funds being dispersed among sectors. Drulă mentions that discussions about the necessary reforms are ongoing in Parliament, including amendments to the urban planning code.
