Sector 3 Mayor Robert Negoiță is proposing a reorganization of Bucharest’s administration and argues that the city would function better without the General City Hall in its current form. He made the statements during the Mediafax Ping-Pong Interview, in which the mayor presented his vision for the administration of the capital.
According to Negoiță, sector city halls should take over most public services, while transport and urban planning should be coordinated at the level of the entire city. He compared the proposed model with the administrative organization of Brussels and argued that the change could lead to more efficient administration and reduced spending.
The Sector 3 mayor also spoke about corruption in public administration, saying that it has come to be perceived as an ordinary characteristic of the system. In his view, citizens’ distrust makes it difficult to recognize honest civil servants and politicians.
Robert Negoiță also emphasized the importance of empathy for a mayor and said he would like Bucharest to reach a level of civic culture similar to that observed in Tokyo. Regarding his political legacy, the mayor said he wants to be remembered for the changes he made and for the genuine appreciation of the people.
