The Minister of Education of Romania, Daniel David, wrote a letter to his counterpart in Ukraine, expressing his concern regarding the closure of high schools teaching in the Romanian language in the Cernăuți region. David emphasized the importance of consultations to ensure that educational reforms do not affect the right of ethnic Romanians in Ukraine to education in their mother tongue. He insisted on the need to consider the legitimate requests of the Romanian community and proposed organizing consultations between the two ministries, offering Romania's experience in minority education.
Representatives of the Romanian community in Ukraine have reported that, out of 20 high schools, only 4 will remain open starting September 1, 2027. David stressed that dialogue and respect for the community's needs are essential for the success of educational reforms.
