The Ukrainian Embassy in Bucharest has denied the information according to which, by 2027, the number of schools teaching in Romanian in Cernăuți would drastically decrease. Embassy representatives clarified that the high school reform does not foresee the closure of educational institutions, and the right to education in the mother tongue will be guaranteed.
Currently, there are 63 educational institutions operating in the Cernăuți region that teach in Romanian. Additionally, the Ministry of Education of Ukraine has not issued official documents supporting the reduction of the school network. The Minister of Education of Romania, Daniel David, has initiated discussions with his Ukrainian counterpart to ensure the rights of ethnic Romanians to education in their mother tongue, proposing the establishment of a working group dedicated to this issue.
