The Embassy of Ukraine in Bucharest announced on Thursday that the competent institutions in Kyiv will issue a response after clarifying the situation regarding the Romanian-language class in the locality of Orlivka, Odesa region, which was allegedly closed shortly after classes began. The diplomatic mission maintains that all the circumstances of the case have been established and describes attempts to amplify negative emotions surrounding it as unfounded.

The dispute concerns the operation of a Romanian-language class in Cartal, a locality also known as Orlivka. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Bucharest announced that it is monitoring the situation and has taken steps both in Romania and Ukraine to identify a solution that would allow education in Romanian to continue.

According to the MFA, the opening of the class was made possible following efforts by the Consulate General of Romania in Odesa, based on requests from the local Romanian community. The consulate contacted the local and regional authorities and will make another visit to the site on September 18.

The Embassy of Ukraine states that the state respects its international commitments regarding minority rights and that progress in this area has been recognized by the European Union. The diplomatic mission recalls that 63 educational institutions providing instruction in Romanian operate in the Chernivtsi region.
