The Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs reacted strongly after the announcement that numerous high schools teaching in the Romanian language in the Cernăuți region will be closed, leaving only four high schools. Romania communicated through diplomatic channels that the rights of the Romanian minority must be respected, emphasizing that the educational reform in Ukraine does not reflect the expectations of the Romanian community.
President Nicușor Dan assured that the law that will come into force in 2027 will not affect Romanian high schools until then. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized the importance of access to education in the mother tongue, in accordance with Ukraine's international commitments. The educational reform has raised concerns within the Romanian community, which fears the disappearance not only of high schools but also of Romanian gymnasiums, thus affecting the right to education of ethnic Romanians.
