The Federation of Free Trade Unions in Education (FSLI) and the Federation of Trade Unions in Education 'Spiru Haret' urge teachers to continue the boycott of exam simulations, including for the Baccalaureate.
The Baccalaureate simulations are scheduled to take place next week, but the unions are calling on teachers and union members to be united and to "not yield in the face of intimidation".
In a statement sent on March 18, union members emphasize that the protest is a reaction to the Government's disregard for their demands, which affect the dignity and working conditions of teaching staff.
They accuse the authorities of maneuvers aimed at minimizing the scale of the protest, such as changing the exam centers.
Union members also encourage their colleagues to remain united and to continue the fight, explaining that the protest is not against students, but against measures that affect the quality of education.
"Overcrowded classrooms, lack of investments, and budget cuts directly affect the chances of a quality education. We are taking this extreme step today, so that you can provide the school you deserve tomorrow," the unions state in a statement, adding that "we are fighting for the proper funding of the Romanian school" and calling on parents to stand by them.
The messages addressed to parents emphasize that grievances should be directed towards the Government, not towards teachers, who advocate for a better educational system.
Mihai Dimian, the Minister of Education, announced on Tuesday that the ministry is providing schools that did not organize the National Assessment simulation with the subjects, evaluation platform, and evaluators, so that the exam can be organized in the upcoming period and in these centers. He specified that 97.7% of educational units have organized this exercise and total attendance is somewhere up to 90%, of the total.
