Raluca Turcan proposes a bill to postpone the introduction of the high school entrance exam by four years.

PNL Deputy Raluca Turcan announced on Wednesday the submission of a legislative project that proposes postponing the introduction of the high school admission exam, while the Save the Children Organization warned that these exams contribute to maintaining inequalities in education and favor students from families who can afford tutoring.

According to the project submitted by Turcan, the new exams would apply starting with the generation of students entering the 5th grade in the 2026-2027 school year.

Turcan emphasizes that the admission and evaluation processes can be improved, but they should not be implemented hastily.

She argues that in the upcoming period, associations of parents, teachers, students, education experts, and central public authorities will need to identify the best solution through a broad and practical public debate.

Turcan expresses hope that the project will be included on the agenda of the extraordinary meeting of the Chamber of Deputies next week.

Interim Minister of Education, Mihai Dimian, emphasized that the organization of the high school admission contest, scheduled for 2027, is a measure established by the Pre-University Education Law voted in 2023. He also called on parliamentarians to initiate a legislative project to revise, postpone, or eliminate the provisions regarding the admission contest.
