PNL lawmaker Raluca Turcan criticized, on Sunday, the measures announced by the Niculescu Government following a wave of violence in schools, calling them “disappointing.” The parliamentarian said the authorities’ plan does not include clear deadlines, designated officials or budgets for implementing the measures.
Turcan questioned the proposed solutions to increase the number of security guards and school counselors. She asked who would bear the costs, given that school and local government budgets are already limited, and called for clarification regarding the source of funding and the number of specialists who would be hired.
The lawmaker also criticized the establishment of a rapid-response mechanism made up of four ministries, saying that it does not identify a specific person responsible. In her view, the authorities need actionable measures, not another working group.
Raluca Turcan referred to several legislative proposals submitted together with PNL, UDMR, USR and PSD lawmakers. The proposals include psychological counseling for students with emotional problems or risky behavior, audio-video monitoring in schools, banning phones during classes and protecting minors from harmful online content. She also supported limiting access to social media for children under 16 without parental consent.
