The interim Minister of Education, Mihai Dimian, emphasized the importance of a quick decision from Parliament regarding the separate admission exam for the 9th grade.
The legislative proposal aimed at repealing or postponing this provision has had a complicated path in Parliament and will be resumed on Tuesday in the Senate's specialized committee. Dimian explained that, to take effect in the 2026-2027 school year, a derogation from the Law on pre-university education is necessary. Until the legal status is clarified, the Ministry of Education will continue to apply the existing legislation, preparing the methodology and calendar for admission.
Additionally, measures for transparency and integrity for potential exams are proposed, including audio-video surveillance and digital evaluation. Dimian recommended that if an exam is organized, it should be piloted by a limited number of high schools to assess the impact on students. He emphasized the need for predictability in education, so that students and parents are informed in advance about the admission rules.
