Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan announced a 13.8% increase in the budget of the Romanian Intelligence Service (SRI) for 2026, equivalent to over 5 billion lei. This increase is the result of accessing European funds and the SAFE - Security Action for Europe program, aimed at strengthening the security and defense capabilities of EU member states.

Bolojan emphasized that the SRI budget, as well as that of other ministries in the field of public order and defense, benefit from these funding lines. The Prime Minister mentioned that ministries that have not accessed such funds will not present the same budgetary increases. He also addressed plans for administrative reform, including raising the retirement age to reduce personnel costs in the field of national security.

Romania is approaching the adoption of the budget for 2026, after the government led by Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan approved the project, which will be sent to Parliament for debate on Friday.
