In Romania, the shelves with eggs are becoming increasingly empty, and this phenomenon is caused by the massive exports of Romanian eggs to European and North American markets. Farmers choose to export because they receive higher prices, and 40% of domestic production reaches countries like Germany, France, and even the United States, which are affected by avian flu.
In the first eight months of this year, Romania exported 35,000 tons of eggs, exceeding the figure of 33,000 tons for the entire year of 2024. Although production prices in Romania are among the lowest in the European Union, the president of the Association of Large Commercial Networks, George Bădescu, does not anticipate an egg crisis, mentioning that there are temporary tensions in the supply chain and that the situation will be remedied.
