The gas flows from Romania are increasingly directed eastward, towards Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova, while transit to Hungary has decreased. According to Transgaz data, Romania directly exports 5.4 million cubic meters to Moldova and 1.1 million cubic meters to Ukraine, totaling 6.5 million cubic meters to the east. In contrast, transit to Hungary has dropped to 5.9 million cubic meters, in the context of international pressures on Hungary to reduce imports of Russian gas. Moldova is completely dependent on Romania for its gas needs. Additionally, Romania has begun to transit gas to Ukraine via the Negru Vodă-Isaccea route, as part of the North-South Vertical Corridor, a project supported by the USA and the EU. Although this corridor provides an alternative to Russian gas, its use is limited due to the high costs of liquefied natural gas (LNG) and uncertainties regarding the safety of the route. Romania is involved in several gas corridors, including Vertical, Trans-Balkan, and BRUA, which also include Bulgaria. Domestic gas production remains steady at 24 million cubic meters, and extraction from storage has begun to significantly contribute to domestic consumption.
