The outdated infrastructure of the oil terminals in Venezuela's ports significantly limits the amount of oil that the country can export.
Oil tankers are facing delays of up to 30 days to load cargo, due to quality issues, power outages, and reduced storage capacity. These delays affect the United States' plans to rapidly increase oil exports from Venezuela, following an agreement with trading firms. Although PDVSA and its partners have increased production, exports have not exceeded 1.25 million barrels per day.
In comparison, two decades ago, Venezuela exported over 2.5 million barrels per day. Companies like Chevron are seeking solutions to improve the loading process, and agreements with traders have allowed the transport of over 140 million barrels this year.
However, terminal repair projects are not a priority in the energy reconstruction plan promoted by Washington.
